On August 1, Melvin Wevers will take up the position as assistant professor ‘Urban History and Digital Methods’. Currently, he is working as a postdoc in the DHLab of the KNAW Humanities Cluster. Melvin has a background in American Studies and Psychology and his current research focuses on modeling historical events and the evolution of ideas in public discourse. In his research, he applies and repurposes text mining and computer vision techniques to examine historical texts and images. One of his current projects HISVIS, for example, explores how we can use scene detection to enrich a historical press photo collection. Melvin is very much looking forward to collaborating and setting up new research projects in the context of CREATE.
