Recently, Julia Noordegraaf, on behalf of the CREATE project, received a grant from the Amsterdam University Fund (Stichting Amsterdams Universiteitsfonds) for the project ‘Cinema Context in revisie.’ This project aims to improve the Cinema Context database, a historical data collection for cinema culture that has originally been developed as part of the research project ‘Cinema, modern life and cultural identity, 1896-1940’, financed by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research, NWO. A review of the use and research potential of the database by Noordegraaf and CREATE researcher Kathleen Lotze has led to the formulation of suggestions for improvement that will enhance the use of the database in future research. The project funding is matched in kind by the University of Amsterdam Library, which hosts the Cinema Context database and will execute the planned revisions.
