From Networks to Maps is the first session of a three-part Digital History Workshop series devoted to Geographic Information System (GIS).

GIS is the digital toolbox for researchers working with geographic and spatial data. This session will be focused on the interplay of spatial analysis and network analysis software. Ivan Kisjes en Jolanda Visser of the CREATE team will introduce us to the basic functionalities of GIS and we will practice hands-on with the GeoLayout plugin of the popular Network Analysis tool Gephi. The aim is to familiarise ourselves with software that allow us to analyse socio-historical networks as situated within their particular geospatial environments.
