Ivan Kisjes (CREATE) and Tessa Wijckmans (COLEM) will start a research project at Nederlab about orthographic variation in in Early Modern texts in January 2017. Historical Dutch texts are characterized by its unstable orthographies, which troubles automatic processing and analyzing of the texts. By using VARD2 (a tool for dealing with spelling variation in historical corpora) Ivan and Tessa will (semi)automatic  translate seventeenth-century prose texts into the modern Dutch language, and compare stylistic, semantic and syntactic characteristics to identify anonymous authors. We will keep you posted about the results.
